During a recent trip to Belger Crane Yard, I noticed the work of Emily Connell.

When I’m “wearing the hat” of a thoughtful critic, the visual has to trump everything.  Ms. Connell’s work immediately intrigued me because it looks mature.  Because she cuts/finishes the pieces with a wet saw or some other type of industrial process the finished pieces look clean and intentful (that’s a word I made up.)  Superior presentation and strange, colorful symmetry piqued my interest long enough to take a deeper look.
